WEEK 6: EAT NATURE!

WELCOME TO NATURE WEEK! LET'S EAT NATURE!

This week we will focus on eating our recommended daily allowance for FRUITS & VEGGIES!

You will get 1 point every day this week that you:

* eat 1.5 cups of Fruit (2 cups for men)  AND

* 2 cups of Veggies (3 cups for men)

(you can drink them in juice or smoothies also)

Speaking of FRUIT- All physical principles have a spiritual component too. I painted this in 2015 and I put my heart and soul in it! I am picking the fruit of the Tree of Life, which represents the LOVE OF GOD! Many cultures throughout ancient history and modern times believe in a tree of life, and it goes by many names. It is generally considered the place where heaven and earth come together. The bird in the tree represents my baby sister, Liza, who passed away at age 21. She is always close and watching over me. The birds soaring in the sky are my prayers going heavenward. In my heart is a small tree of life, which I planted there with Faith, and I can take with me wherever I go. In my church there is a story of an ancient prophet who had a vision (his son did too) about the Tree of Life, and the fruit represented the love of God (something I hope we are all trying to feel throughout the challenge) so along the edge of the this path toward the tree, are the words to the scripture in 1 Nephi: 8:10 & 11,

"And it came to pass that I beheld a tree whose fruit was desirable to make one happy... it filled my soul with exceedingly great joy."

This week we are going to literally internalize all the good stuff nature has to offer us by EATING IT! (We will have a DRINK WATER week later). So get yourself to the grocery store and get yourself some fruit and veggies and FILL UP! Here is why it is so important: Listen to this INFO and then I'll be back with some details...

Just 1 in 10 adults meet the federal fruit or vegetable recommendations, according to a new study published today in CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR).

Depending on their age and sex federal guidelines recommend that adults eat at least 1½ to 2 cups per day of fruit and 2 to 3 cups per day of vegetables as part of a healthy eating pattern. Yet in 2015, just 9 percent of adults met the intake recommendations for vegetables, ranging from 6 percent in West Virginia to 12 percent in Alaska. Only 12 percent of adults met the recommendations for fruit, ranging from 7 percent in West Virginia to 16 percent in Washington, D.C. Results showed that consumption was lower among men, young adults, and adults living in poverty.

“This report highlights that very few Americans eat the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables every day, putting them at risk for chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease,” said Seung Hee Lee Kwan, Ph.D., of CDC’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity, lead author of the study. “As a result, we’re missing out on the essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber that fruits and vegetables provide.”

Seven of the top 10 leading causes of death in the United States are from chronic diseases. Eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables daily can help reduce the risk of many leading causes of illness and death, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers, and obesity.

The findings indicate a need to identify and address barriers to fruit and vegetable consumption. Previous studies have found that high cost, limited availability and access, and perceived lack of cooking/preparation time can be barriers to fruit and vegetable consumption.

So, if you would like to LIVE LONGER and FEEL BETTER... eat LIVE FOOD...

 Ladies and Gents!

Camille Smith is sharing two classes with us on PRAYER! These classes will really take you to the NEXT LEVEL with your relationship with your creator! Camille is a life coach, healer, yoga instructor and one of my favorite humans!! She is doing this challenge with us and is the owner of Restoration Yoga (she teaches awesome Christ centered yoga classes and more).

The first class is from a guest speaker named Amy Miles and is called is called "Refine Your Ask"

"Hear Amy share her experience on her best way to formulate questions and get answers through prayer and personal revelation!"

The second one is about "Prayer Journaling". I attended both classes and highly recommend you watch one or both and grow your relationship with your truthteller!

Excellent work people! We are five weeks in and we have 24 people taking the survey, 12 people (that we know of) scoring in the thirties! I hope you had so much fun filling your lives with music last week and that it leads into a super special week of prayer and communion with the Divine! It is going to be a really neat week!

Forms response chart. Question title: How does good music affect you? (Choose any that apply). Number of responses: 24 responses.
It was really fun to see how music affects you! Looks like EMOTIONS wins with dancing and feeling closer to the Divine coming in second and third!
Forms response chart. Question title: Will you keep filling your soul with MUSIC in the future?. Number of responses: 24 responses.
WOOOO!! That is one nice chart! I don't know that I've ever seen anything so beautiful! 100% of you will make music a part of your daily life moving forward! SWEET!

IF you discovered any NEW FAVORITE SONGS or ARTISTS you'd like me to add to the Spotify playlist... list them here!
My Jesus by Anne Wilson! Love it- amen!!
Mandisa - Stronger
Queens Don’t by Raelynn; Days of Dark by Dierks Bentley; Somebody Does by Tigirlilly; Strip Me by Natasha Bedingfield
The Playlist is amazing!!! I've listened to it most days while getting ready for work. I'm listening to it now as I'm packing to move. I Snapchatted what happened... I'll post it in the group. Lol
Christian Music 90.3 radio station
I tend to listen to the same artists over and over again. I really like Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings, First Aid Kit, The Tallest Man on Earth, and the Danish String Quartet. Lots of Scandinavian roots.
Llama Llama Red Pajama - Ludacris

I will add these to the playlist but I wanted you to see the actual comments! We've got some great stuff here! (I have the book Llama Llama Red Pajama but I DID NOT KNOW it was a song too! Haha! SO Curious!!!)

Please share with us something you learned about yourself, or tell us an uplifting experience you had while listening to music this week!
Just the power of learning and playing a song on the guitar in a different key and how it changes the dynamics and overall power of the song
I was just more aware of lyrics and my emotions while listening to music.
This week has been a challenging week with work and single parenthood. I love Mandisa but I had never heard her song Stronger until this week. I was bawling, God KNEW I needed that song this week.
I just felt so much lighter all week long. I felt more loved and more love for others. I kinda wanted to hug the whole world!
While thinking of words and melody to make a song, I thought of my children and their journey to come to Christ.
So I often listen to classical, more calming music but decided this week I would choose to listen to more upbeat mainstream music each day. It was a great experience. I felt more energized and was surprised to find myself up and dancing a lot. I love that I have rediscovered another way to feel more energized. Thank you!
It was just so uplifting overall to listen to more music! I always feel like my life is a movie (the good kind) when I listen to music. It is so uplifting!
I was able to dance with my bestie's son at his wedding. He asked me to dance to a favorite song of ours... I sobbed. It's posted on my Facebook page... 😇🤗 I also went to a singles Halloween party and danced. I LOVE MUSIC AND DANCING!!
I am always listening to music, but this week I listened to music when walking instead of my podcasts. It made me bounce along to the beat and really get into it. What a difference good music makes!
Music brings my body into a feeling of balance.
It's amazing how you can manipulate your emotions with different genres of music. I listen to music depending on my mood or the mood I want to create. One thing I enjoyed this week was driving by myself one evening, turning up the volume and singing at the top of my lungs!
I love listening to classical music. It organizes my thoughts and is so intricate.
I listen to a wide variety daily. We do a lot of singing! I recently taught my preschoolers a song about the universe and I could tell they were really feeling it. When it was over, everyone sat still and then two comments were made by students. 4 year old Violet said, “this is my favorite song because it makes me feel ALL of my love!” And Reese said, “I love this class!” I’m sure she meant I love my classmates. Music can make you feel everything a little deeper and it is a great unifier. The basics of harmony are just two notes that sound good together. I think music is a great metaphor for what we are trying to accomplish in our families. Solos are pretty great, but playing together in harmony is out of this world thrilling. Music is also a native language for children. It is more important to our human experience than we realize.
Music (especially with lyrics) is usually very personal- I don’t hear well and once I “get” the song I play it but don’t typically expand my playlist. This has been wonderful discovering new artists genres and styles. I would not have dreamed of doing this on my own!

Forms response chart. Question title: Did you dance and get your bonus points?. Number of responses: 14 responses.

It fills me with joy!

Happy! Silly. I love to dance during chores!
I feel more alive when I dance!
Happy, lively and playful
It was fun. I got my husband to dance with me!
I love dancing!

I am just so filled with joy and gratitude right now that you are all having such joyful experiences!! Thanks for responding to the survey and for reading each other's responses!
